Summer routines rarely change all at once. More often, one convenient stop makes a familiar outing easier, and that small improvement becomes part of the weekly rhythm.
That is what happened in Miller Place this year.
Between February 12 and March 14, three new businesses opened along Route 25A: Trader Joe’s, Jimmy John’s, and Hummus Fit. Then, on June 20, an expanded Adventure Golf course opened at nearby Heritage Park in Mount Sinai.
Each opening serves a different purpose. Taken together, they change how a local summer day can come together. The beach, trails, and outdoor events were already here. What changed is the preparation around them.
The useful 2026 update is not simply that Miller Place has several new businesses. Route 25A now gives residents more ways to stock, pack, pick up, and reset around the outdoor places they already visit.
Four Openings, Each Filling a Different Part of the Day
Here is the practical overview before we build an actual summer plan around it.

The Summer Day Can Now Start on Route 25A
The new Trader Joe’s at 300 Route 25A is the opening most likely to change an entire day rather than one meal.
It carries produce, bakery items, cheese, flowers, frozen meals, pantry basics, and snacks. That mix makes it useful before several very different local plans. You might be packing something simple for Cordwood Landing, picking up food before Cedar Beach, finding an easy side for a backyard dinner, or bringing snacks to an outdoor movie.
The practical advantage is flexibility. A summer outing does not need a detailed menu or a second stop on the way home. You can shop for what you need now and pick up something easy for later while you are already there.
That matters because the best local summer plans are often decided on the same day. A clear afternoon becomes a walk. A warm evening becomes a picnic. A movie night works because someone remembered a blanket, drinks, and food that travels well.
Store hours can change around holidays, so check the official location page before making a time-sensitive stop.
The Outdoor Anchors Have Not Changed, and That Is the Point
A post about things to do in Miller Place this summer does not need to pretend every good idea is new. The strongest plan pairs the 2026 openings with places residents already know.
Cordwood Landing County Park remains the clearest Miller Place example. Located in the historic district, the park has hiking trails and access to Long Island Sound for walking, fishing, beachcombing, and time near the water.
A few practical details are easy to overlook:
- Leashed dogs are permitted at Cordwood Landing.
- The park follows a carry-in, carry-out policy.
- Night fishing requires a permit.
Those details shape what to pack. Bring a bag for anything you carry in, plan for water, and choose food that is easy to manage outdoors.
Nearby Cedar Beach in Mount Sinai offers another kind of day. Its features include two beach areas, concessions, a playground, basketball courts, a walking trail, a fishing pier, a marina, and boat ramps.
The Town of Brookhaven’s 2026 recreation guide lists Cedar Beach as open daily from June 29 through September 7. Listed lifeguard hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. Conditions, operations, and parking requirements can change, so confirm the current information before leaving home.
The new Route 25A options do not replace either place. They reduce the work involved in getting there and figuring out dinner afterward.
A Portable Lunch No Longer Requires Much Planning
Jimmy John’s at 691 Route 25A fills a straightforward role: quick food that can travel.
The Miller Place shop offers indoor seating, pickup, and delivery. Its official page lists daily hours from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., though checking before a late visit is always sensible.
For summer purposes, portability is the useful detail. A sandwich can go with a midday outing, an evening sports schedule, or a blanket-and-chair setup at Heritage Park. It also gives a group another option when no one wants to coordinate a full meal before heading out.
This is a small change, but small changes tend to stick. A local activity becomes easier to repeat when lunch does not need to be prepared first.
The Newest Activity Is Free and Just Outside Miller Place
The summer’s most distinctive recreation opening is Adventure Golf at Heritage Park in Mount Sinai.
The expanded course opened with a ribbon cutting on June 20. It grew from a smaller community-funded putting area installed about a decade ago and now includes several holes, a waterfall, and nautical décor.
There is no admission charge. The course uses an honor system:
- Borrow a putter and ball from the equipment station.
- Play the course at your own pace.
- Return the equipment when finished.
- Make an optional donation through the QR code posted on site if you wish to support the course.
Several putter sizes are available. Since published information does not provide a daily operating schedule, check availability when planning a time-specific visit.
Heritage Park is at 633 Mount Sinai-Coram Road. It is in Mount Sinai, not Miller Place, but its summer programming makes it a practical nearby extension of a Miller Place day.
One Heritage Park Visit Can Now Hold the Whole Evening
Adventure Golf becomes more useful when paired with what is already scheduled at Heritage Park.
The remaining 2026 Movies in the Moonlight dates after July 11 are:
- July 17: Miss Congeniality
- July 24: Lilo & Stitch, the 2025 film
- August 7: A League of Their Own
- August 21: Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl
- September 4: Back to the Future
Movies begin at dusk, and times may change. The remaining summer concert in the published series is BonJourney on August 14 at 7 p.m. Admission is free, and nonperishable food donations are welcome.
The Heritage Center’s event guidance encourages visitors to bring chairs and blankets. Coolers are permitted, but alcoholic beverages are not. Food and drinks may also be available from food-truck partners or Ralph’s at the Shack.
Weekly Foodie Fridays are scheduled to continue through September. Participating trucks can change, so verify the current lineup before choosing dinner around a particular vendor.
Two park rules deserve a place in the plan:
- Pets, including dogs, are not permitted at Heritage Park.
- Visitors should use designated parking and avoid parking on Jesse Way.
This is where the summer update comes together. You can pick up a portable meal on Route 25A, play a free round of mini golf, and settle in for a movie without turning the evening into a complicated production.
Hummus Fit Solves the Other End of the Day
Some evenings do not need another activity. They need dinner handled.
Hummus Fit at 451 Route 25A opened in March with a different model from a typical takeout counter. Its offerings include ready-to-eat meals, bowls, wraps, snacks, and protein-focused Buffin muffins. Local pickup and delivery are available.
That makes it especially useful after the outing rather than before it. A beach afternoon, camp pickup, sports schedule, or park event can run later than expected. Having prepared food nearby creates a practical way to end the day without adding cooking and cleanup.
Hours have varied across published pages, so confirm the current schedule before relying on a late pickup.
Three Ways to Use the New Miller Place Summer Map
The openings make the most sense as combinations rather than isolated destinations.
The Miller Place outdoor afternoon
Start at Trader Joe’s for drinks, snacks, and picnic food. Continue to Cordwood Landing for a walk and time by Long Island Sound. Remember that everything carried into the park must be carried out.
The beach day with dinner already settled
Confirm Cedar Beach operations and parking requirements, then spend the day around the beach, trail, playground, or other facilities. Pick up prepared food from Hummus Fit on the way home so the day does not end with meal planning.
The Heritage Park evening
Pick up a portable meal from Jimmy John’s or pack a cooler. Check whether Adventure Golf is available, then stay for a scheduled movie, BonJourney concert, or Foodie Friday. Bring chairs or blankets and leave pets at home.
None of these plans is elaborate. That is precisely why they are useful. They fit the way local summer days tend to happen: one decision at a time, close to home.
What Is Still Coming to Route 25A?
A few announced businesses should not be added to the summer plan yet.
SoBol’s official directory still lists its future Miller Place location at 691 Route 25A as coming soon, with no opening date announced as of July 11, 2026. A new True Value beside Trader Joe’s was also still described as under construction in the latest confirmed reporting.
For now, the accurate list of confirmed Miller Place openings is Trader Joe’s, Jimmy John’s, and Hummus Fit, plus Adventure Golf nearby in Mount Sinai. That is enough to reshape a routine without getting ahead of the facts.
A Familiar Summer With Better In-Between Stops
Miller Place did not need a completely different summer identity. Cordwood Landing, Long Island Sound, Cedar Beach, and Heritage Park already provide the places to go.
What 2026 added is a better set of in-between stops. Route 25A can now handle more of the food, packing, and last-minute decisions surrounding those outings. That means less preparation before leaving and fewer loose ends when the day runs long.
